Ectopic Pregnancy
In Pregnancy, the fertilized ovum is attached to the lining in the mother’s womb but in Ectopic pregnancy, it is attached somewhere else, and not in the uterus. The Ectopic pregnancy occurs in the tubes from which the ovum is carried to the uterus from the ovaries. These tubes are known as fallopian tubes. This is also called tubal pregnancy. An Ectopic pregnancy occurs in the cervix region, the ovary or the abdomen. This sort of pregnancy cannot proceed in the usual manner. The ovum does not survive. The growing tissues would destroy other structures. There could be blood loss that is life threatening if the condition is left untreated.
Ectopic Pregnancy can happen in women due to various factors. A prior history of having such pregnancy is a common factor. If there is any problem with the normal structure of the tubes this can happen. There could be some infection or abnormality or tumor in the fallopian tubes that are risks for women to have a fallopian tube pregnancy.
The gynecologist is the person who can diagnose Ectopic pregnancy. If there is heavy bleeding, it could be a cause of Ectopic pregnancy. The Doctor performs an examination of the pelvic region. The pelvic region undergoes an ultra sonography. The Doctor may also have an ultra sonography of the birth canal.
The treatment options for this condition are laprotomy, laproscopy and medicines. Most of the women are treated with surgery and medicines as soon as this condition is determined as there is risk of life. The medicine administered in Methotrexate, an anti cancer drug. This medicine helps in killing the cells and thus miscarriage is induced. Some women who do not respond to the medicine Methotrexate would need the surgical approach. The risk factor is there due to the internal bleeding hazard. Most women respond to Methotrexate and this is a common solution to women who respond to this treatment. It is generally diagnosed by pelvic ultrasounds or blood hormone tests.
