The word ‘Diabetes’ is very common these days as people all over the world, irrespective of age or sex, have been suffering from this disease.

You may find the best definition of diabetes in the Wikipedia, according to which, it is an ailment which is characterized by irregular metabolism and improperly high blood sugar resulting from either low levels of the hormone insulin or from abnormal resistance to insulin’s effects coupled with inadequate levels of insulin secretion to compensate. In simpler words you must know that a person who is suffering from this disease lacks in insulin to take care of the sugars in the diet, and as a result, glucose, a type of sugar, builds up in the blood.

The gestational diabetes develops during the period of pregnancy. The placenta, in this duration, makes a substance that counteracts the effects of insulin. As a result of that the body needs more insulin during the pregnancy period than in the normal period. This type of the disease is more common to the mothers who are overweight or have a family tradition of diabetes.

It is very important for the mothers to keep the level of sugar in the normal range. This disease is not that serious in nature as people usually talk about it. It poses no threat to the life of the mother or her baby. But it is advisable for them to avoid sugar and simple carbohydrates. They should maintain a diabetic diet to avoid any unpleasant happening. Exercise can be a very good alternative for keeping the sugar under control.

If you have tested positive to gestational diabetes, you must follow the advice of the doctor very strictly to keep the level under control. You can also seek the advice of a dietician who can give you more guidelines to keep the things under your control. Be very careful of the unborn child who is sheltered in your own body. It is a serious aspect of the affair as it may lead to serious consequences with you as well as with your baby.

Gestational diabetes can be a terrifying diagnosis, conjuring up opinion of having to stick yourself with needles and bring a huge baby. You must remember the child and his wellness and you must try to do everything for him. Take very good care of your diet, take proper exercise and see your baby healthy after he is born.

During pregnancy, a woman takes between 9 and 12 kilograms. If it is important not to be going without to avoid the deficiencies, a regular surveillance is necessary. Because the excesses are not insignificant and the superfluous kilograms are often difficult to lose.
