During pregnancy a mother has to take care of the two lives, one is for herself and the other is for the growing life inside her womb. Naturally one has to take extra care in those months to look after the two bodies inside one and hence one should also increase the nutrition intake. Particular nutritional needs of the mothers depend upon individuals and their nutritional requirement but a broad guide line is as follows:

Calorie Intake:

During the months of pregnancy the body needs more calories to maintain itself and one should at least increase the calorie content by at least 300 cal per day.

Water:

As usual water is the miraculous gift of nature. In the womb the foetus floats in the water sac and also it is very important for the mothers to get rid of the toxins of the body and to remove the toxins nothing is better than water. Increase the water intake by at least 4-5 glasses to get things moving.

Habits:

If you are a chain smoker or alcoholic then you have no right to become a mother. Smoking and drinking during the pregnancy phase may result in severe physical and mental damage to the child. They must be avoided at any cost. Irregular eating habits and fondness for junk food should be avoided for at least during the months of pregnancy.

Protein:

You may not like to have meat during the months of pregnancy but it will be very good if you can grab those chicken thighs and have very high quality protein.

Other Nutrients:

Increase the intake of Vitamin D, folic acid, calcium, phosphorous, zinc every day. Also one must remember to include enough fibre in the diet.

No exercise:

You may have an hour glass figure but the fact is that do not follow the same exercise schedule during the months of pregnancy. About exercise always consult your doctor.
