Nutritionists often face this question, “Is there any other way to keep my heart healthy, besides healthy food intake?” Sadly though, we fail to understand the fact that the primary and best option for a healthy heart is healthy foods.

The basic rule of maintaining a healthy body is to focus on 70% nutrition and only 30% exercise. Hence, its high time we should understand and know what foods are healthy and necessary for us to intake regularly.

Some of the healthy foods are:

Beets: They are considered as ‘one of the best sources’ of ‘folate’, the nutrient responsible for lowering homocysteine in the blood levels. A cup sized serving of beets will provide the body with 60 calories, 0 fat, and around 40% of the daily value of the required folic acid intake, and contains fiber of around four grams. Even the leaves and stems of beets are full of nutrition.

Cabbage: This food item is a part of the ‘cruciferous vegetable family’. A cup contains about 20 Calories, with 2 grams of fiber, and loaded in with sulforaphane, which is a cancer-fighting chemical, which has a proven helpful in preventing or decreasing cellular damage all throughout the body. We can consume cabbage adding with servings of salads.

Guava: This is one of the commonest tropical fruits, it’s known as the ‘tropical super fruit’. A cup of it produces up to 110 calories. It contains 376 milligrams of Vitamin C, which is even more than 300% of the required daily value. Guava has an energetic dose of an antioxidant, ‘Lycopene’, assumed to fight the prostate cancer.

Swiss Chard: It is a great provider of ‘lutein’ and ‘zeaxanthin’ – an excellent pair of matched antioxidants. Because of the property of absorbing around 40 to 90% of the ‘blue light intensity’, those antioxidants are wonderful protection sunscreen for the eyes. Research shows that these antioxidants increases pigment density in the region macula, resulting in higher retina protection. One cup of this nutrient provides around 35 calories.
