Make up of lips is given more attention than the care of lips. This is not the right thing to do as the lips need a lot of attention because they are very tender and the outermost layer is very thin. There are no sweat glands and only a few oil glands are there that are much dry and helps chapping. We all know that cracked lips look awful and can be very painful too.
The factors that cause dry lips
Drinking much alcohol and coffee can cause dehydration of the body which shows with the drying of lips. Too much cold or hot weather can cause the lips to get dry. The outer layer of the lips which is also the protective layer cannot just handle the temperatures well. This can cause stress and cause the whole body to get small infections but they show on the lips first. This causes the lips to crack and that can be real painful.
Some medications also cause the body to get dried up and these can cause dry lips. Some disease also causes a drying effect on lips which needs to be attended by the medical practitioner.

The body must be hydrated well by drinking lots of water, about eight glasses a day. Dehydration is a cause for chapped lips and the simple solution is drinking lots of water. A good lip balm with moisture reduces the hydration in the area in and around the lips. There are balms with antiseptic qualities in them. Again diet that is rich in Vitamin B, E and C is to be taken as these are very necessary for perking up the levels of immunity.
