How to deal with anemia during pregnancy
During pregnancy anemia happens due to the deficiency of iron. If you got tested during the early pregnancy then it is good for you but that is still not the end as anemia might happen in the later stages of pregnancy also. You do not need to worry about the baby too much. He would get as much as iron that is needed for his growth from you. But if the case is totally ignored, then there is a chance that the baby too would suffer from anemia.
Anemia is identified in the tests that are done before pregnancy. Around the 20th week, the baby will start taking out the iron that he needs for himself from your own body. So in that later period, you may start developing anemia.
Some symptoms of anemia that you would be experiencing while you are pregnant are as follows. You may feel weak and exhausted, breathless, palpitations, fainting experience, light or pale skin. Women who feel nausea at the onset of pregnancy and feel like vomiting all the time may develop anemia due to mal nutrition. Women carrying more than one fetus may be at a risk. The two babies will take in iron twice as much. Women who have more than two pregnancies one after another may suffer from anemia.
The daily iron intake in a diet is around fifteen milligrams for women who are looking to conceive. The pregnancy women should take twice as much. Some of the iron supplements however cause vomiting, nausea and constipation.
Foods rich in iron like liver, dried fruits, spinach should be included in the diet. Foods that are rich in Vitamin C and also rich in iron will help more in the absorption. Taking coffee will however hinder the absorption and therefore intake of caffeine during pregnancy is not advisable.
