Infertility and You
Even after you have tried for twelve consecutive months and have failed to conceive, you can be termed as being infertile. If you have not been pregnant earlier on, that is primary infertility and it is secondary infertility if you have been pregnant before. Many people feel they would be able to go for a family planning but medical help is needed in almost all cases. If you have been pregnant in the last few years that condition is referred to as secondary infertility.
There are many reasons for people not getting pregnant. Actually to get pregnant, eggs are produced by women and sperm is produced by the man and that needs to unite in the woman’s body or in healthy tubes. The basic reasons for infertility are the problems in ovulation, problems in producing sperms, if the tubes are blocked, endometriosis, and the last few causes are unexplained.
The couples that are infertile generally have no signs or symptoms but you would be asked a few questions by the doctor when you see him. So you should try and find out what the problem is. Women with regular periods produce their eggs whereas those who have infrequent periods do not ovulate regularly. If your partner is not healthy the doctor may ask whether the partner has had any operations on genital infections, hernia, testis. Alcohol and Smoking also lower the quality of the sperms. If you have had any Chlamydia infections, that could damage the tubes. The doctor would do some scan or some internal examination to ensure that everything is safe and sound. Infertility can be a great strain for marriages and relationships. Therefore proper test and investigations are very necessary. There are some basic investigations that are necessary like semen analysis, laproscopy and investigation of the tubes.
