A lot of people often ask whether stress causes belly fat or not. With a good lot of research on this, it has been established that stress for a long time leads people to gain weight and there is a deposition of fat
in the abdominal region. When rats and monkeys are kept in a high stress environment, they show a lot of deposition of fat in the abdominal region. Women who are not by nature obese, often develop a lot of fat in
the abdomen at the times of stress.

Stress leads to a lot of hassles with weight. It is not quite known why this happens. Fat accumulation and weight gain is for people who eat a lot and in excess of what is required by them and the chronic stress in them prompts them to choose foods that are not quite healthy and therefore they start accumulating fat in the abdominal region.

People under stress opt for fatty foods and foods with a lot of sugar. These food are taken in good amount and the person starts getting the belly fat. The stress hormones are reduced. It has been found out that the brain opts for food that taste better when a person is under stress and the  people who are under constant stress opt more for those foods. The stress hormones are somehow connected to the night eating syndrome
and there is also the problem of binge eating among the people who suffer from stress. The stress hormone Cortisol leads to the visceral fat accumulation. Women who are generally lean but they accumulate belly
fat, it is due to the secretion of Cortisol. Exercise is of some help not only because of reducing the fat in the belly but also for reducing stress. Stress management could be one of the methods that can be utilized in this process.
