You may have heard the term ‘Hyperactive’?
Your answer may be mostly positive but if I ask you what is meant by this term? Your answer this time must be blank. The simple reason is that this term has not been defined properly or adequately till now.
First, let’s take a look what does this term mean?
According to the noted psychotherapist Frances Campbell, Hyperactivity of a child’s behavior is a psychological disorder that has no specific symptom. This sort of disorder is observed mostly in the little kids in the age group of seven to twelve years. These children show different symptoms in different cases. This disorder is medically termed ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder).
Since there is no specific symptom for this disease, the treatment is made on the basis of the behavior. Here some of the common symptoms are listed. You can easily locate the signs of ADHD in a particular child.
Unusual aggression: In this symptom, the child finds it difficult to behave properly with the children of his own age. He behaves aggressively with his playmates and in the process he fights with them as well. He can also be found with tremendous display of restlessness at times.
Highly emotional and intellectually immature: This is another very common symptom of a child suffering from ADHD. He is extremely sensitive by nature and can exhibit acts of immature behavior. Due to this reason, the child lags behind his classmates in his studies.
Lack of Concentration: It is a very harmful symptom for a child’s behavior. He finds himself unable to understand what is being said to him? A child suffering from ADHD cannot do his work properly. He lags behind in his class as he is unable to understand his teachers properly.
Unaware of Physical harms: These children are extraordinarily sharp and active. They do not find enough time to listen you properly. They are absolutely unaware of any physical harm. They can be found in very risky circumstances as they are unable to understand Forgetfulness or Clumsy behavior: A child suffering from ADHD has the general tendency to forget everything in a very short while. Due to many differences of common behavior, a somewhat clumsy behavior develops in the child which is not desirable at all.
So these are the common symptoms of a hyperactive child. If you find any of these symptoms in your child’s attitude or behavior, take him to a psychotherapist immediately.
