Itchy Scalp Conditions And Solutions
A very annoying problem is the scalp that is itchy and accompanied by white flakes of skin that are visible. These are commonly referred to as dandruff.
Seborrhoea is one such annoying scalp problem. The skin yeast which is known as Pityrosporum ovale lives on the scalp. The yeast cells are low in number and very few problems occur. There is no inflammation and there is lot of flakiness and itching. This condition is known as pityriasis capitis.
Seborrhoeic dermatitis is formed when very severe inflammation occurs and there is the formation of greasy scales that are dry. The reaction involves the scalp, chest, nose, eyebrows, and ears. There is the formation of yellow crusts along the full hairline. Seborrhoeic dermatitis seems to affect the adult males, and it may also cause inflammation of the eyelids.
The treatment for Seborrhoeic dermatitis has to be treated with shampoo that is anti-fungal and contains ketoconazole. This reduces the flaking and also controls the yeast cells that are there in the scalp. If the scales are stubbornly attached to the scalp you can remove them by gently rubbing the flaky scalp with baby oil or rubbing some olive oil to the area that is affected. You can leave that throughout the night and wear a covering or cap to help it from spoiling the pillow cases. You can wash off the crusts the following day. Most of the seborrhoeic scales would be removed after treatment. If you are on a natural therapy, you can rub the scalp on Tea Tree of 7 drops and essential lavender oil 7 drops and 1 tablespoon of carrier oil before the hair is washed.
Seborrhoeic dermatitis causes inflammation and this has connection with the essential fatty acids. It is advisable to take fish oils containing omega 3, evening primrose, and more of wholegrains, fish, nuts, seeds and more oily fish. Processed foods should not be taken.
