Nutritional Basics For Pregnancy
When you are pregnant, you should be careful regarding the food you eat because your food intake affects your baby’s healthy development. If you are wondering how this happens and what you should be doing to ensure good health for your child, reading this article may help you out.
* The food you eat is digested in your stomach and intestine. Digestion simply means breaking down of the food particles into simple substances like sugars, amino acids (fundamental component of proteins), fatty acids (fundamental component of fats), minerals and vitamins which enter into your bloodstream and gets circulated throughout the body.
* The blood which flows across your placenta is the source of nutrition for your baby as the molecules get absorbed over there. It means that if you eat a sandwich, your baby will not be eating the sandwich as a whole but the vitamins, minerals, sugars, amino acids, fatty acids etc.
* This also means that food that is not much healthful like say candy bar will not be poisonous as such but it will just be a substitution of the healthy components which would have been better both for you and your baby.
* You should follow the tips given below to ensure appropriate weight and good nutrition both for your baby and yourself
o You should eat only when you are hungry
o Eat little at regular intervals
o Healthy diet like fruits and vegetables is essential
o When you feel that you are full, then stop eating
o Exercise regularly
At times it happens during pregnancy that you crave for things which are not food as such like chalk, laundry starch and even dirt. Women do not report it to the doctor or midwife because it is a bit embarrassing. Well, don’t feel so, because this is not uncommon. It is called pica and happens along with anemia.
It is important to ensure a healthy diet rich in vitamins and minerals like fruits, vegetables, whole grains etc for a healthy baby.
