Post Natal Depression
A woman is ecstatic the moment she knows she is carrying a throbbing life inside her and she is soon going to be a mother. When a healthy baby is delivered, she feels contented and happy. But there are moments
in which she feels a sort of depression after childbirth which is called post natal depression. Women face this depression months after the baby is born. This symptom of postnatal depression is very different from the condition of baby blues in which the mother feels like weeping without any proper reason. This lasts for some time and this can occur within a few weeks or a few months from delivery. Postnatal depression also
occurs within a few weeks or a few months of the delivery. This is when the new mother feels irritated, indecisive, less energetic, anxious and also guilty. The symptoms of postnatal depression are similar to that of general depression. A new mom needs a lot of care to come out of this depression.
A research states that around ten to fifteen per cent of the new moms face this depression. This is caused due to several factors. The most common reasons are hormonal changes, tiredness and stress that occur during the pregnancy period. PND is common for the women who had suffered from depression before and ones who have a family history. They go through a lot of emotional stress and physical stress for the child birth too. Postnatal depression can be treated with love and tender care from the friends and family. One should be able to purge this feeling and emotion. Discussing and sharing the problem with the family members would help. A balanced diet is prescribed and a few anti depressants can be used after a consultation with the doctor. This is a problem which can be treated with ample love and affection to enable the mother to lead a happy and normal life again.
