We all knew that when you carry fat – no matter how much of it you’re carrying – markedly increases the risk of build-up of plaque and calcium in the arteries. But, recent research show that there is a connection to dementia, also. This study shows, how big your belly is in relation to your hips in other words, the “waist-to-hip ratio” might be a better indicator of dementia than other widespread measures of obesity and overweight, for instance BMI (body mass index) and height/weight charts. In other words, you must get rid of that pauch….as soon as possible.

Belly fat matters more than the fat on your thighs. Abdominal fat, unlike fat near the hips, are known to trigger a chain of adverse activities that accelerates into harmful metabolic changes and buildup of plaque leading to heart disease and dementia. Therefore, you must know your waist-to-hip ratio:

First, while standing, use a measuring tape to measure your waist in inches at your navel, take care NOT to hold in or push out your tummy. Then, measure your hips carefully in inches at its widest area. Lastly, divide simply your waist measurement by your hip measurement.

That’s it. For example: if your waist measures 39″ and your hips measure 39″ you are 1.0. Eventually, you want your waist to be leaner than your hips. Ideal waist-to-hip ratio for men and women:

For men, it is 0.9 or less For women, it is 0.8 or less For both men and women, 1.0 or higher is considered “not good”. The good thing is that even little improvements prove to be greatly beneficial. Just Lose an inch or two from your waist and you’re on the sunny side. And yes, the way to do that is through regular exercise and a healthy diet.
