Teaching Kids Proper Mealtime Behavior:

Children are just like sponges they can absorb fast and that’s why certain decorum and manners should be taught to the child right from the age of two or three or what we call preschool age. One of the most important thing for the child to learn is the table manners. They are very important if you do not want to get embarrassed in front of guests or in the restaurants.

However there are certain techniques for imparting this lesson. First of all as the experts say act the role model and demonstrate in work what you are teaching to the child. As they do not have the turn on and off capabilities at this age they may learn not to listen to you if they repeatedly see that you are not at all interested to follow those rules that you are asking the child to follow. Apart from this the child at this stage is extremely prone to get distracted and may not sit through a multiple course dinner or lunch. That’s perfectly normal. However don’t forget to remind him that he is wrong and you do not like it.

Scolding should be best avoided and rebuke should always be a low key affair. If he is prone to making bubbles then just remind him that nobody sitting at the table does that. It becomes very difficult for the child to learn some manners like eating food with closed mouth and not placing the elbow on the table. However do not worry these are certain things that the child will perfectly manage when he will grow up. It is the natural tendency of the child to get distracted and forget something. Remember one thing while teaching them manners do not snatch away their childhood.
