Sexual dysfunction in Women
There are many women who undergo sexual difficulties at some point of time or other. Sexual dysfunction is common in women who undergo menopause. Perhaps, she has enjoyed active sex life throughout her life but lately she fails to satisfy her partner and that her sexual urge has waned. A woman of 60, experiences some problem in sexual activity. This could be due to lack of partners or due to some physiologic changes. The sexual dysfunction is common in all women after the menopause. The hormone production lessens. Almost fifty per cent of all women after undergoing menopause face sexual dysfunction.
The general complaints that all women have at this stage is lack of desire. There is decreased libido. There is also no lubrication in the genitals and there is no arousal either. The women cannot reach orgasm even after they have been aroused and stimulated. They face pain in the process of intercourse although these symptoms vary greatly among different individuals. There could be some complex factors like medical, emotional or hormonal factors behind this sudden drop in libido in post-menopausal women.
The women undergo a sort of depression at this stage which is due to the lack of interest in daily activities and there is a total decrease in sexual desire. There is chronic stress and these results in the physical and mental changes. Anger shows up and so does resentment. There are also intimacy and communication problems. Sexual abuse in the past can lead to stress and sexual dysfunction. The sexual dysfunction in females has some deep rooted causes like hypothyroidism, heart disease, hormonal insufficiency, high blood pressure, diabetes and cancer. These bring in vaginal dryness but the use of hormonal therapy and also the use of lubrication in the vaginal region can help improve on this.
