Step Parenting
The job of step parenting can be much of a reward if you take it up the proper way although it has its own problems. Parenting is a difficult job and when it comes to parenting some one else’s children, the problems can be carried to heights. So when a new marriage puts you in the garb of a step parent, be sure of a journey that is filled with obstacles. Only with some bit of communication and sensitivity you would find this to be a rewarding job.
Step parenting means that you have to meet marriage and parenthood together. Adjusting to a new married life can be much challenging and if you are confronted with kids, especially adolescents, who are confused and also bitter to you, it can be a lot stressful. It can intensify if you have never had children of your own.
Step parenting is a process that requires a lot of adjustment and when you settle down to a proper life style and get into a rhythm then things start working out properly.
You must remember that step parenting does not necessarily involve you to be your step children’s friends. You are just another adult whom they need to respect. Although children have lots of friends, they need adult supervision and happy and healthy parenting.
If you are not the friend of your step children, you are not also their biological parent. You must make it clear that you are there to respect their boundaries and you would like to earn respect from them too. Tell them that you know that you are not their parent and let them not think that you are usurping their parent’s place. Let them think of you as a friend who has been married to their dad or mom. This job of step parenting can be a rewarding role. This is a unique journey where you get to know whom you will be step parenting and start on your mission soon.

What’s everyone doing for safety precautions for Halloween? My husband came across an article (http://i-newswire.com/pr220892.html) with some info about background checking neighbors. I thought that may be a little overboard but it had some other good suggestions for some precautions I haven’t thought about. Last year my youngest son came down with a massive fever after Halloween. I almost thought about just taking the kids to our church’s fall festival this year instead of door-to-door to prevent that from happening again. I don’t know yet. What’s your advice? Am I over-reacted or just being a concerned mom?
