Tackling Relocation Problems In Children
December 11, 2008
Children find it difficult to adjust to new surroundings when you shift house or move to a new city. School children miss their teachers and friends. Though parents embrace this new prospect with delight, hoping for a better way of living, children bear the emotional isolation with pain. They should be explained the necessity of relocation and how it will provide them with brighter opportunities.
Substantial groundwork is necessary to find out the proper schools and areas of entertainment in the new place to make sure that the children are not debarred from taking delight in their little pleasures. Show them the pictures of the new place, the new house and the garden to familiarize them with the surroundings before you actually shift. Kindle their hopes by unfurling to them the better prospects which the new place will hold out to them. After you shift, take your children to the malls, or grocery stores or other places with which they were familiar earlier. This will help them to relate the new palce with the old ones making the separation bearable.
Familiarize your children with the names of the lanes, houses, people etc. take them for outdoor games and make them socialize with the neighbours and other like minded people. Make sure they do not feel bored in their free time. Outdoor activities like swimming, playing etc will refresh their spirits. You can also place them in Abacus classes for a better bonding with the new kids.
Kids can bond easily, especially the toddlers because they are fascinated by the new faces and new people. Bonding is very important and give time to that. Eat the dinner together, it helps to bring the family together. Talk frankly to your kids in case they are apprehensive and try to solve their problems in a friendly manner.
Teenagers face the greatest problem. Years of experience make them skeptical and since they get used to a particular environment, they find it difficult to make new friends and miss their old friends. Internet can help them to remain in contact with old friends.
Getting adapted is inherent in human nature. It is only a matter of time. Imperatively, it must be mentioned that relocation is also quite exciting at the same time.
