Teaching Manners to Toddlers
Manners cannot be taught to children very easily. It does not come as easy as ABC. Manners cannot be implemented very suddenly without giving the child the faintest idea of right and wrong. The best teachers for manners in case of little children are their parents. First, the parents should start rules that are very simple and those which should be followed. For an instance, the flushing of the toilet is very important. This habit should be inculcated into the child and he should learn to do that every time they leave the toilet. If the children use a toilet in a relative’s house and leave it messy that would also reflect on the parents who have not been able to teach them proper manners.
The parent’s behaviors with the children are very important if they are to teach them manners. It is the parents that the child follows consciously or unconsciously. You should not only tell them what is right and what is not. Greeting newcomers to the house or even visitors with a handshake and a hello is expected of kids who have been taught good manners. Saying thank you and please are examples of good manners in case of children. These words help to show politeness, from the child.
Parents should teach them the virtue of sharing. Sharing among the siblings and among the classmates and friends should be taught by parents. The good manners in children would help to develop a wonderful relationship among friends.
Antisocial behavior and aggressive demeanor should not be avoided by parents. Throwing of food at the table, biting and hitting other boys are socially unacceptable behavior that should be taken care of the moment it happens. Parents should be patient and calm while they are handling such behavior and at the same time strict with the kids so that they do not go out of control.
Good manner that are taught and learnt at a young age is beneficial. This would help the children to mix with the society and the peers with ease.
