There are certain varieties of this particular fruit which have a prolonged existence.  Many varieties of apples can have a long life. A fruit can remain fresh till six weeks if it is untarnished, not manhandled and kept in cooler zones such as in refrigerators. Apples are regarded as a healthy option: An average apple has 8 calories only and has no amount of sodium, cholesterol or fat. Apples provide a very good resource of folic acid, iron, vitamin C and vitamin A as well as a good source of nutritional fiber.

Apples soak in any form of smell very quickly. So it is always advised to keep them in storage, far from strongly smelling goods such as onions, garlic. While buying apples, one should be aware of getting hold of the correct ones. You should always choose the fruit after checking whether it gets dented due to slight pressing or not. The ones that have no damage or mark stay intact longer. An important feature of apples is its release of ethylene gas. Though this gas causes no harm but it facilitates the decay of green and leafy vegetables. It is always recommended to store apples in separate sections or in plastic carriers in refrigerators. Apples emit ethylene gas-it is not harmful, but can cause foods such as leafy green vegetables to spoil more rapidly. Sliced apples can be checked from turning brownish by immersing them into lemon juice.

Here is how you can rely on a nut diet. To keep shelled nuts fresh, it is recommended that you store them in cooler areas such as freezers, refrigerators. Cut the nuts as soon as you remove the skin after blanching them because this is time when the nut is most soft. Purchasing a low-priced nut grinder is always a better option. Costly appliances such as blenders, food processors form chunks while grinding and mash the nuts that tend to ooze oil. For enhancing the aroma and crispiness you can add to the bean dishes some roasted nuts and seeds.The flavor and crunch of nuts always get augmented if they are roasted and then used in recipes. Another plus point regarding toasted nuts is that they don’t dip into bread, cakes or any other semi-liquid mixtures. Do not grease the skillet on which you will toast the nuts or seeds. Keep stirring the nuts quite often until they attain the golden brown color. You can also toast these nuts in an oven at a 350 degree F and stir regularly for 10-15 minutes. Wish you could add a few more nuts to the pie? Simply substitute cornflakes in place of nuts, crushed roughly.
