The Basic of Healthy Living
June 29, 2009
Proper Nutrition is the base of any healthy living. If we go by the biological word definition it can be called as the prerequisite of the cells for the materials or compounds and minerals necessary for life support. A lot of our regular health ailments can easily be prevented by a proper diet rich with the nutrients.
By diet we refer to the eatable form or food for an organism. Scarcity of which can result in deficiency diseases like ‘beriberi’, and ‘scurvy’. Nutrition can also be mentioned as the study and research of foodstuffs and how they effectively fuel our body to grow and to achieve other daily goals.
The Macro-or Big nutrients, commonly called the macronutrients, comprise of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. The Micro-or Small nutrients comprise of the vitamins, and the essential minerals.
Nutrition in the early childhood can successfully help in preventing a lot of problems caused in the latter part of life due to mal-nutrition. For example, Breastfeeding is an extremely effective way of ensuring a child’s health and even survival. A practice of breastfeeding for the first six months from birth can contribute to a substantial reduction in child mortality globally. Sadly however, only about a forty percent of the infants under-six are properly breast fed. “The World Health Organization” encourages breast feeding to be “the best source” of nourishment to infants.
Even adults should be quite observant on intake of proper macro and micro nutrients. A proper amount of such nutrients comes from a nutrition rich diet consumed in an everyday basis. A teenager should be actively encouraged towards such nutrition rather than in-taking of beverages and junk foods, which are rich in free-radicals. For example, free radicals in a food will reduce the amount of metabolic rate to a great extent.
Alcohol consumption in our body in a larger extent does not make us fat or obese due to the amount of fat in the bottle. But, the obesity caused by alcohol consumption in regular basis is due to the same reason that of eating junk foods regularly. The common evil in those foods is the free radicals they produce in the body, resulting in these free radicals to produce enough energy to our body to continue with the day to day activities, and extensively reducing the body’s natural metabolic rate.
Hence, we should always as much possible try and maintain to consume a balanced and nutritious diet.
