The challenge that Menopause is
August 21, 2008
Menopause is an alarming and a frightening stage in a woman’s life that is associated with a whole lot of emotional, physical and spiritual changes. Reaching the menopausal condition can thus be frightening as well as challenging. There are some physical changes which are quite uncomfortable, related to this stage of menopause in women. It reminds us of the end of our child bearing years and brings in a phase of strong womanly maturity. Often femininity is linked up with fertility in women and therefore menopause is regarded as a negative aspect and perhaps, a full disregard for their worth as a woman. This is very near to truth and this is a reminder of the fact that we are aging and our body is getting older.
What actually is menopause? It is a stage where a woman’s reproductive organs can no longer bear the eggs and that causes a stoppage of the menstrual cycle. This begins around the age of fifty while there are exceptions as well and some women experience this even earlier in life. The symptoms of menopause however, begin before the setting on of actual menopause.
There are a plethora of symptoms that are associated with this physical condition. They include the irritability, the mood swings, the weight gain, the cold flushes. There is a decrease in the libidinal conditions, along with depression, heart rate that gets irregular, joint and muscle soreness and heavy menstrual bleeding. You can almost expect what is the most unexpected at this stage as the symptoms of menopause are all too many. There could be a creeping sensation on the skin as well.
Menopause is not a condition to be afraid of. It should be embraced with grace as this is a symbol of wellness and health as well. Women find it a muddling situation but they can be at their best with their sense of humor, and their way of dealing with it day in and day out. It is best for women to get prepared with it and stay well informed beforehand. Some women often do not have the information to convey what they are feeling during a menopause and why they are feeling so. It is the other women who can help each other go through this extremely difficult situation very slowly and steadily and surely, with a lot of grace!
