The hidden dangers of sun tanning
Holidaying on a beach resort and getting a perfect tan might not be a good idea after all. Sun is the utmost energy source of our lives, yet too much of anything can be harmful. We all are aware of the fact that tanning is not a healthy practice and we should wear sunscreen and avoid the peak hours. As if that is not enough, recent researches suggest that too much exposure to sun can be fatal. This country recorded prevalence of skin cancer to be around one million per year. Among every five persons one is likely to suffer from skin cancer. Dr. Ronald Moy, who’s director, dermatology, California Health and Longevity Institute, stated skin cancer as the commonest form of cancer and that too is preventable. According to him tanning beds let intense light which goes real deep into the skin and damage is irreparable.
The salon industry gets huge profits out of the tanning business and any claim about their being safe is a myth. So, the temptation of getting tanned even if for a few time is to be checked. Often we think sun provides vit D and it is good to get sunlight for 20 minutes once a day, but normal activities and sports can take care of that. Some might think that applying sunscreen lotions help protect skin since the skin is not getting burnt, but that is not true because researches also indicate that most sunscreens provide UVB protection and these sunscreens cant protect against UVA much. In fact nowadays it is found that it is actually UVA which penetrates the deepest layers of skin and damages skin causing cancer of skin as well as aging. To protect yourself get a sunscreen that covers UVA and UVB such as Helioplex formula from Neutrogena. Couple that with a wide-brimmed hat as well as shades and try to be out of sun as much as possible.
