These days, due to lack of space, resources and of course, time, not many people choose to have more than one child; But how to care for him? Here are some tips to successfully raise a single child.

• Focus your attention

In case of a single child, your attention and concern need not be evenly divided between two or more children. You can focus all your resources and parenting care on one person.

• Shower time, not gifts

You should devote time, attention, love and care for your child. Do not pour down fancy birthday bashes, excessive pocket money, or costly gifts on him. Affluence gives a wrong signal to your child. Instead, utilize your resources wisely. Be your child’s best friend.

• Keep him busy

Select a hobby class for him. But consider your child’s aptitude when selecting it. He should be enjoying the class. And of course, encourage him to take part in indoor games, sports and obviously, to socialize and build up a friend’s circle.

• Sources of entertainment like Books and TV

Books can be long lasting friends for your child. Encourage him to get familiar with other cultures. Let him watch TV and use the net for a restricted time each day. There are some good educational programs as well. But do keep a watch on the TV and net habits. Expand you circle of friends and family. Your child will learn the importance of lasting friendships. And you will enjoy your life too.

Don’t suffocate your child with attention

Parents, especially non-working mothers, often focus too much attention to their single child. It is very important to give your child the independence and the space he requires. Strike a healthy balance.
