It is hard, no doubt. But you have to endure it. That’s for sure too. At the beginning, it’s the parents who need to initiate toilet training. If you see from the viewpoint of your kids, having mom and dad deal with their nappies is great. It has worked nice so far, so why does need to change it? You must realize that children are tackling quite a tough task, when they are controlling their bladder, so have lots of patience and give loads of encouragement.

So what are the signs that the young ones are ready to start using a potty?

Your child must recognize what has happened when they fill or wet their nappies. They will over and over again show signs of feeling uncomfortable or even tell you so.

But do not expect this phenomenon to happen before the kids are 18 months old. Many of them won’t reach this stage until they are two. Generally, girls show signs a little earlier than the boys, but go by what your child can understand and manage, not just the age in years or months.

For Most of the children who were premature at birth, or have suffered from some disability or prolonged illness; the parents will need to wait a bit longer.

Your child must also understand simple requests, so that the words ‘Let’s sit you on your pot’ do make sense to them. Toddlers nearing two also like to play simple pretend games, so be imaginative.
It’s not wise to push your youngster for your own sake. Yes, it would of course be so useful to have your older kid toilet trained well before the new baby is born. But if they are not quite ready, then all of your efforts will be pointless, and life would become even more weighed down when your new baby arrives.
