Why you Should Have a Good Breakfast
A great day should start the right way – with a healthy breakfast. It is fine to wake up and have a cup of tea/coffee/wheat grass juice/warm water-with-lemon-and-honey, but you need to reinforce this with a substantial and nutrient-packed breakfast to keep you fighting fit throughout the day.
Skipping breakfast is a crime on your body – it can lead to fatigue, mid-morning hunger pangs, unhealthy snacking and weight gain. The body feels tired, often causing mood swings, irritability or fainting. There may even be long-term health risks, like heart attacks. People who eat little or nothing at morning suffer from more cholesterol and coronary problems.
The smart thing to do is to breakfast like a king. Balance your breakfast – have proteins (egg-whites/yogurt/skimmed milk/low fat meat/beans), vitamins (fruits and nuts), carbs and fiber (oats/muesli/multigrain bread) in the right proportions. A little olive oil or butter/margarine adds to the taste, but don’t just pile on the fats. Skip processed stuff like white bread or biscuits. Sugary and deep-fried food is also a no-no. Consult dieticians or nutrition-charts to plan a proper breakfast –it’s the best investment you can make for your body.
Eat substantial portions. A wholesome and filling breakfast everyday helps to
• Keep your energy-levels up
• Boost metabolism and prevent weight-gain
• Reduce risk of heart attacks
• Protect your over-all health
• Lift your mood
• Regulate bowel movements
• Improve your and your children’s memory and immunity.
Breakfast does not have to be boring or bland. Choose from a variety of healthy and tasty options to give yourself and your children a kick-start to a great day. Make your first meal of the day something to look forward to. Have a different breakfast every day of the week. Just remember to make it protein-rich, high-fiber and low in fat. Make healthy breakfast a lifetime habit as it’s the best way to say “Good Morning” to your self.
