In order to reduce the damage caused to the skin by sunburn and stop it from further damage, it is essential to apply it as soon as possible. Break an aloe leaf and apply the gel flowing out of it on the affected area. This will reduce the inflammation to a great extent.
A component called lycopene found in tomatoes, which is also a powerful antioxidant, works as a protective shield for your skin against the harmful UV rays that causes skin burn. The water content in it also has a cooling and soothing effect on the skin and helps in reversing the affects of the damage caused.
It is very easy to apply. Place a slice of cold tomato on the affected area and leave it for sometime. It will slowly ease the inflammation.
Coconut oil is used in many sunscreen or sunblock products as a precaution against sunburn. It is equally effective in soothing already established sunburns. Put a wet towel on the affected area and make it damp.

Alternatively, you may blend a raw tomato in a blender or grinder to form a fine paste and apply in on the burn. Potatoes can be applied on the affected area, several times in a day. However, do not keep it for more than one hour, whenever applied.
Baking soda helps in maintaining the pH balance of the skin. It is very effective for soothing an inflamed skin. Take some water in a bowl and mix some baking soda into it. Now apply it on the affected area with a cotton swab.
Alternatively, take a bath with cool water and baking soda diluted in it. It is not possible to take bath with it several times. Therefore, you will need to apply it locally many times in a day, and continue with the same for a few days for effective results.
