How To Treat Blood Clots

[toc]There are many ways to treat the formation of blood clots or thrombosis. Since it can take place in any part of the body, the treatment should be done promptly to avoid any kind of serious organ failure due to lack of blood flow.

Blood Clots

Some drugs help to maintain the natural flow of blood through veins and arteries. However, treatments vary for the specific parts such as legs, hands/wrist, brain and so on. It is suggested that regular exercise, balanced diet, non-sedentary habits can prevent blood clots. Some measures as to how to treat blood clots are:

5 Treatments For Blood Clots

Prescription Drugs

The most common choice for the advanced stage patients is the drugs that should only be consumed after consulting with the medical practitioner. Though effective in dissolving already formed clots, these drugs often have their own side effects such as excessive bleeding.

In this category, there are three medicines that are usually recommended. Anticoagulant drugs such as “heparin”, fibrinolytic drugs such as “streptokinase”, anti-platelet drugs such as “aspirin.” Dosage and precautions of these drugs must be therefore adhered strictly by patients.

Anti-Thrombotic Therapy

With regular research being conducted, the popular treatments that can be included as a part of anti-thrombotic therapy are : the use of medicines commonly known as “clot busters” that are able to dissolve the blood clots formed, surgery or “thrombectomy” in which surgically a clot is removed from the body and “Catheter-directed” treatment or thrombolysis.

This is a two-fold procedure. First, a catheter (long tube) is inserted inside the body and then it is directed to the clot location where it provides the clot dissolving medication.

Surgery

In case of the presence of a structurally abnormal clot in a vein frequented by superficial clots, it can be separated with a minor surgery. The surgery requires a minor incision to be made usually not more than ¼ parts of an inch.

Though a vein is removed, it should not be alarming as blood circulation is not affected in any way. Alternatively, the vein can be injected with a “sclerosing” agent that medically prevents the formation of additionalclots.

Alternative Medicines

Alternative medicines are taken when people are unwilling to go for prescription drugs or surgery. For the purpose of thinning blood, one of the most effective alternative medicines is liquid chlorophyll. Its’ alfalfa has healing qualities helping to build up blood due to the presence of vitamins and minerals.

A few tablespoons added to water can be taken daily. For obtaining best results this can be diluted with flax seeds (containing omega 3 fatty acids), cayenne (which helps in cleaning arteries) and Vitamin C tablets for vein integrity.

Diet

In case of minor clots, medication is not mandatory. In some cases, even wearing “compression stockings” to cease swelling can suffice. However, an effective natural treatment is to include, food that propagates blood circulation in your diet. This would include the consumption of “ginkobiloba” and “ginger” that increase circulation and prevent clots and clumping of platelets.

“Garlic” (containing allicin) can also be taken as it helps in thinning blood.Similarly beans and legumes help to lessen cholesterol and plaques as they are rich in dietary fibre. In short if precautions are taken from before, clots can be avoided naturally. Otherwise there are several treatments available to relieve the pain. Some treatments can be intensive. Proper consultation with a medical practitioner is always recommended.
