[toc]Periodontal disease is a gum disease where there is inflammation and infection of the gums, the bone surrounding the teeth and the deeper tissue that supports the gums. This disease is caused by a lack in the maintenance of good oral hygiene eventually leading to the formation of plaque and tartar.
This will further cause infection of the gums and lead to gingivitis or inflamed gums and periodontal disease. Periodontal disease is characterised by dark red gums, which bleed and cause a lot of unbearable pain as the infection has spread into deeper tissue. This disease can even lead to teeth loss. Medicines cannot reverse the condition of periodontal disease. Hence it is very important to follow the natural remedy route to treat periodontal disease.
Various Ways To Cure Periodontal Disease
Deficiency of vitamin C can lead to periodontal disease. Since the eighteenth century limes were used as an effective cure and preventive measure for Periodontal Disease. Vitamin C is a well known antioxidant and is required for the effective repair of the connective tissues and regeneration of bones.
Vitamin C is easily available in a variety of natural foods such as kiwi, oranges, grapefruit, broccoli, strawberry, mangoes, bell peppers, papaya, cantaloupe and brussels sprouts. Increase the consumption of these foods as a part of your daily diet. Vitamin C is also available in the market as supplements. One must avoid chewable vitamin C when suffering from periodontal disease as the acidity in these tablets will erode the tooth enamel over a period of time.
Vitamin D is good for bone and teeth health. It also has anti inflammatory properties and certain compounds that can reverse the symptoms of periodontal disease. The most easily available free source of Vitamin D is the sun.
The UV rays of the sun help in the synthesis of Vitamin D in the body. Ten to fifteen minutes of Sun exposure twice a week is recommended to synthesize enough amounts of Vitamin D for the proper functioning of the body.
People having lower levels of Coenzyme Q10 suffer from various gum problems including periodontal disease. Coenzyme Q10 is an antioxidant that is naturally made in the body. This is required to repair any damaged tissue of the body including the gum tissue.
Also this is an anti inflammatory agent and will help in curing the infection and inflammation. This is available in the market in supplement form and also available in a variety of fruits and vegetables. Certain toothpastes also have added coenzyme Q10. The inflammation and infection of periodontal disease will reduce quickly on the use of tooth pastes with coenzyme Q10.
Tea Tree Oil And Turmeric
Tea tree oil is a well known antibiotic and these antibiotic properties will help in curing the infection of periodontal disease. There are toothpastes available in the markets that contain tea tree oil. Brushing the teeth twice a day with this will help in reducing the inflammation and soothing the gums.
Brushing your teeth with turmeric can also be very effective in treating periodontal disease. Turmeric contains compounds that have very good anti inflammatory properties and hence helps in soothing the gums and removing the plaque. Use warm salt water to rinse the turmeric. The salt will help in killing the bacteria and thus help in reversing the infection.
Baking soda is a natural cleansing agent which can help by loosening the plaque and tartar on the teeth and gums making it easier to clean the teeth. Brushing the teeth with baking soda every day instead of toothpaste will help in keeping the teeth, gums and surrounding tissues clean.
Baking soda also has anti inflammatory properties and will help soothe the inflamed gums and reduce the bleeding of the gums. Ensure that you brush very lightly as any excessive pressure will damage the gums further. Rinse the mouth well with clean water after brushing.
Hydrogen peroxide is a very good cleansing agent. This chemical helps to remove any hard debris and loosen the plaque and tartar. To prepare the hydrogen peroxide solution, mix the undiluted chemical with water in the ratio of 1:1 i.e. one part hydrogen peroxide and one part water. Now fill your mouth with this diluted solution and swish it from side to side ensuring that it reaches all the areas of the mouth.
This swishing must be continued for two minutes to be effective. Spit it out after some time and rinse with plain water. This will ensure the cleaning of the mouth even in the hard to reach areas, thus rinsing out the plaque tartar and the infection causing bacteria.
