Instead, you can apply a little amount of diluted eucalyptus oil on the chest, throat and posterior side of the child.
This will liquefy the phlegm and release the bronchioles from congestion. This is the most effective and easy treatment for a small child to get a relief from cough.
Extract Of Basil Leaf
Basil leaf is a very good anti-cough agent that can be used by all age groups. Especially, it is more effective in toddlers than in adults. You can make an extract with this basil leaf and give a few spoons of it to the baby.
Take some five to six basil leaves and put it in the boiling water, leave it for some time to cool and then filter off the content. Few spoons of the warm extract can be given to the baby. This should be given at least twice a day for effective results.
Make Tasty Syrup With Licorice
Licorice extract, taken from the leaf of the plant, is a sweet liquid. This is a very mild agent and can cure sore throat of little baby and relieve from cough too. As the extract is sugary, your baby will drink that tasty syrup without any fuss.
Mixture Of Ginger And Garlic
Ginger and garlic are both strong smelling, which can arrest cough immediately. You can make an extract, by boiling ginger and garlic in water. Leave it to boil well and allow it to cool off completely.
Add a pinch of salt to the extract. You can give this diluted extract to the toddler. A few spoons of it will work effectively against cough.
Hot Water Steam To Relieve Cough
A hot water bath will also help in reducing cough, which is caused due to congestion and phlegm. You can also expose the child to the hot water steam for effective results. You can add a few drops of eucalyptus oil into the hot water steam and find quick relief.
Toddlers should be handled very carefully, as they will not be able to explain even if something is wrong. So, always use the diluted form of all the above products. In case of persistence of cough, it is better to consult a pediatrician.
